Definition and Examples of Cue Phrases in English

A connective expression (such as now, meanwhile, anyway, or on the other hand) that links spans of discourse and signals semantic relations in a text. Examples and Observations Within a discourse segment, the discourse coherence relations among the situations are often implicit and involve such notions as cause, consequence, claim, reason, argument, elaboration, enumeration, before, and after. . . . On the other hand, many transitions within a discourse structure, especially changes and transitions from one segment to another, are often made overt through the use of clue word or cue phrase expressions that provide information at the discourse level. These expressions include incidentally, for example, anyway, by the way, furthermore, first, second, then, now, thus, moreover, therefore, hence, lastly, finally, in summary, and on the other hand.(James E. Cue phrases express abstract concepts in themselves, that is, they express the concept corresponding to the specific relation that they signify. For instance, the cue phrase because between the enunciations I missed the bus and I left home late expresses a concept of causality, that is, the coherence relation holding between the two spans of text. Obviously, the relation would hold and the concept of causality could still be inferred even if the construction was paratactic, that is, even if the cue phrase because was not there. However, the point is that natural language is capable of directly indicating an abstract concept like causality, entirely independently from the content of the related text spans.(Clara Mancini, Cinematic Hypertext. The Memory Of The Vietnam War Essay - 1668 Words

The memory of war is one that often focuses on larger political and military topics while the average person often overlooks micro scale events, such as the refugee experience. Nonetheless, these events are more capable of giving a sense of the objects that were truly at stake in a conflict between larger parties. Ling Dang, a refugee of the Vietnam War, has a distinct memory of the Vietnam War because of the fact that she was born in the year of the Fall of Saigon. As a result, Linh’s memory of Vietnam, up until the age of 10, lies in the middle of a spectrum between memory and postmemory. I must admit that prior to interviewing Linh, I expected to hear a narrative that was much more traumatic like those we had covered in the course. Thankfully Lihn’s story wasn t as traumatic as others that experienced the war first hand and after conducting the interview and listening to others, I find Linhs story to be one that resonates with memory of older Vietnamese refugees and post memory younger Vietnamese-Americans. Similar to Angela Ho, Lihns childhood experience shaped her outcome that many would associate with the term â€Å"model minority†. Like older older refugees, such as Tam Duong, Linh maintains a patriotic stance on the War, although not as praising of the United States. The concept/ myth of the model minority is one that has intrigued me through the later part of the course simply because I can see the many reasons why people would deem the model minority idea to be true.Show MoreRelatedAnalysis Of The Movie The Vietnam War By Kristen Ann Hass s Making A Memory Of War897 Words   |  4 PagesWhen discussing the topic of America’s involvement in the Vietnam War and the toll it had on America as a whole, it can be rather controversial. Guidance on Patient Confidentiality System

Question: Discuss about the Guidance on Patient Confidentiality System. Answer: Introduction: The New South Wales Mental Act has defined and addressed issues of non compliance and confidentiality of patients dignity and respect is upheld. The Act addresses the issues in order to ensure mental care offered is community based (Lamont, Brunero and Sharma, 2016). The Act stipulates the following issues in the processing of ensuring high levels of compliance and confidentiality. There should be politeness in therapeutic relationship. This requires physiotherapist engagement with a patient should have high degree of humbleness and politeness to the patient to create openness between him/her and the patient. This involve asking question and listening keenly to the patient without ignorance or shouting to the patient to create good environment to the patient which develop trust. Secondly is trust. This is an ethical where the patient needs to have a full confident to the physiotherapist in terms of knowledge sills and intent to provide quality care to the patient. Also the patient ne eds to trust physiotherapist against any kind of exploitation by creating boundaries of confidence between them. Third is respect: There is high need of respect between the physiotherapist and the patient and also to the patient caregivers regardless of any differences on basis of race, ancestry, place of origin, ethic, color, gender identity, age, marital status etc. Lastly is an issue of power. Physiotherapist should ensure the patient and their caregivers fee free to share their problem regardless of the power differences as to the patient and the physiotherapist. In addition the act addresses avoidance of deception in the mental care. All what comes out of physiotherapist should be true to the patient interest to avoid misleading the patient or worsening the condition of the patient (Mearns, 2012). References Mearns, B. (2012). Should companies allow employees to exercise on work time

Abstract Employees’ performance at workplaces is affected by numerous factors. Different forms of jobs have varying factors which influence performance of workers. Different results are also obtained depending on individuals. Poor physical health is known to have adverse effects on productivity of employees at a workplace.Advertising We will write a custom coursework sample on Should companies allow employees to exercise on work time? specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Various researchers have come up with studies to prove whether physical exercise is necessary at workplace. Different working environments, people and type of work give varying results which either support or dismiss the need for exercise in places of work. This variation in factors and results complicates the real value of allowing employees to exercise during working time. Some managers believe that exercise during work time is a total waste of valuable time. Others understand the contribution of exercise to refreshing employee’s mind, abilities and performance. However, even if exercise is allowed at workplace, the other question is, should workers exercise during or after working hours? In this paper, sufficient reasons will be provided to support or dismiss the hypothesis. This paper uses coded words to identify reasons that justify if exercise should be allowed during working time by employers. Hypothesis The hypothesis is that exercise should be allowed in places of work during working hours by employers. Many people work in offices and other places which do not require physical strength to perform their duties. These people do not get enough time to exercise and keep their bodies fit. Furthermore, some jobs are repetitive and do not allow workers to refresh their minds. This in turn makes workers less effective while performing their duties. At the end employees develop health problems due to poor physical exercise. Researc h method The research method used in this paper is coding. This method is used to organize and analyze key words and phrases which are considered to be important for the research. Results of the coding have been provided. They were obtained from various articles on the internet, journals and reports.Advertising Looking for coursework on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! At the end of the research, a conclusion shall be drawn to explain if the hypothesis was supported or not. Results of each source and cumulative frequencies are tabulated independently. Ten sources are used in this research. Flexible Work Arrangements: Selected Case Studies (Georgetown University Law Center. 2010). People who exercise on work days are happier, suffer less stress and are more productive (Daily Mail Reporter, 2008). Taking Time Off of Work to Exercise Improves E mployee Health. Some main words and phrases have a high cumulative frequency which indicates that the information supports exercise at places of work. The first four words and phrases with the highest number of hits in descending order are as follows; Work 493, Exercise 181, Workplace 181 and Physical activity 170. This is a clear indication that employers should not on ly allow their workers to exercise at their places of work, but also during working time. Information from most of the sources used in the research is in support of physical exercise at workplaces. A research conducted by Pronk and others (2004) found that employees who are allowed by their employers to engage in physical activities performed better than their colleagues who were not allowed or choose not to engage in physical activities. Employees who are less active develop health problems which eventually influence negatively their performance at work. According to Soetemans (2004), physical activities not only improve mental and physical well being, but also improve work performance. All the information found by researchers and various authors agree that exercise at place of work should be allowed during working hours to improve employees’ well being. This is supported by the data obtained by the coding research. People with various health problems such as obesity, heart disease and stroke are associated with poor physical activities and office jobs. Soetemans further showed that such people are frequently absent from work because they visit health facilities more often than their healthy colleagues. Conclusion From the results we can see that the highest frequency was portrayed by Work, Exercise, Workplace and Physical activity. The lowest hits were in Anxiety. My conclusion is that the high number of hits in physical activity, exercise, workplace and work supports the need for employers to provide their workers with facilities for exercising at workplace. Fewer hits were recorded for sport than for physical activity. This shows that the form of exercise should not be limited to popular sporting activities. Therefore, the hypothesis I drew at the beginning of the research has been supported by facts from the research. References Brad, J. (2007). Analytical Essay Kiss and Tell by John Sam Jones Essay Example

Analytical Essay Kiss and Tell by John Sam Jones Essay â€Å"Kiss and tell† is a story written by author John Sam Jones. The story is set in Wales on a school. The story revolves around a boy and his thoughts about the opposite gender. The story is the omniscient type of narrator. This analysis focuses on characterization as well as on how to fit in. The main character in the story is Seimon. He is a fourteen-year-old boy from Wales. Throughout the whole story, the focus is on Seimon and his addiction to his teacher Mr. Roberts. As from the very beginning of the story, the narrator tells about the girls and boys in Seimon’s class. Some of the girls in Seimon’s class seemed much older – and a bit scary1. Somebody acted like they had already outgrown their peers – Jane Jones who had got breasts that where the Promised Land of boy’s dirty talk, almost always had love bites on her neck, and Shan Jenkins boasted about going to the nightclub Llandudno at the weekends with her boyfriend, who was a management trainee with one of the new, cheap German supermarkets.2 It seemed like all Seimon’s classmates had grown up both physically and mentally. Seimon felt that puberty had not reached him yet. Sometimes he imagined himself smaller-than-small so that the others would not notice him.3When the boy s he hung around with, seemed not to want to see him, he considered if he was insignificant. He hated that word because it made him think of being lonely and isolated. Siemon is a fragile person who is very easy to affect. Western Lowland Gorilla essays

Western Lowland Gorilla essays Humans share more than 98 percent of our DNA with gorillas. Because of our arboreal heritage, primates share assiduous anatomical characteristics, including depth and color vision, opposable thumbs, and fingertip pads as the primary organs of touch (Kottak, 109). Large and complex brains, tool making, living in social groups, and committing time and care in offspring are other similarities between humans and gorillas. The population of the western lowland gorilla has declined rapidly over the past decade. Estimates range between 90,000 and 110,000 individuals, with the population spread across the lowland tropical forests of Central Africa, from Nigeria to the Congo River, but this figure is now thought to be grossly exaggerated (Western Gorilla.org). The largest of all primates, the western lowland gorilla, is usually characterized as having hair that varies from black to grey or brown. Hair covers their entire body except for their face, upper chest, and the soles of their hands and feet. Adult males are silverbacks. All males acquire silver hair on their back and upper thighs when they reach sexual maturity. Adult females usually weigh between 150 to 300 pounds, while adult males weigh 350 to 600 pounds (Animal Fact Sheets). Western lowland gorillas live in structured family groups. A group consists of one silverback male, several unrelated females, ranging from juvenile to adult, and infants. The silverback is in charge of the group. He regulates their schedule. The silverback keeps the peace within the group and stops occasional disputes between females (Columbus Zoo and Aquarium). Gorillas are most active during the day. They spend a considerable amount of time searching for food and eating. They are terrestrial creatures. Adult gorillas tend to be too heavy to be brachiate and be arboreal. Western lowland gorillas can be bipedal for short distances, but generally get around by ...

Globalization and it's effects on Hawaii Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Globalization and it's effects on Hawaii - Essay Example Being an island nation, Hawaii has always attracted tourists from among all regions of the world and it has remained their main source of revenue. Globalization has also facilitated transnational â€Å"capital flow, transportation, tourism† and other kinds of alliances amongst nations, which played a major role in boosting Hawaii’s economy (15). Thus, the phenomenon of globalization, on the one hand, has accelerated economic and technological developments in Hawaii, but, on the other hand, it has had devastating effects on its environment and ecological balance as well as reduces the employment opportunities of local population. The capitalist philosophy that the elimination of national boundaries and the â€Å"rational operation of the free market† nourish prosperity does reflect on the economic growth of the island nation (Sheppard 308). In early days, agriculture has been one of the main resources of Hawaii but â€Å"sugar transformed† the nation initially as an industry based economy (Firth 183). Subsequently, falling in tandem with the trends of globalization, the Hawaiian outlook further changed from an agricultural society to a service based community primarily gaining strength from the exponential growth in tourism and allied industries. This transition, characterized by the emergence of â€Å"new market forces† coupled with the â€Å"new technologies of transport† has further accelerated the economic development of Hawaii (179). Similarly, â€Å"economic globalization† can have several positive outcomes for countries, in terms of enhanced quality of life, as can be evidenced from the progress that Hawaii has made in various aspects (Globalization and Environmental Sustainability 259). In addition, the liberalized policies of immigration, and the ease with which it can be processed as a consequence of globalization,

The Existence of God Presented by Anselm and Aquinas Personal Statement

The Existence of God Presented by Anselm and Aquinas - Personal Statement Example The most vital objection to the Aquinas argument is that except people recognize that principle 2 of his argument is factual, the argument falls short. If the cosmos is substantially old, for example, everything could certainly be created by something else prior to it; the succession of causes may possibly go back perpetually. However, perhaps more prominently, one might grasp that the argument does well without considering that God continues living. There could be numerous uncaused causes such as various gods, state; the uncaused source might be an obtuse, uncongenial force. The argument articulates that God is needed to elucidate the subsistence of the cosmos, but presents no enlightenment for why God continues living. If an individual appeals to God to give reasons for there being a universe instead of nothing, another question would be raised giving reasons for there being a God instead of nothing, and the basic question, of reasons for there being something instead of nothing re mains unrequited either way. Therefore, a potentially absent God to elucidate a cosmos that we recognize exists should not be invoked (Melchert 122). It is unreasonable to argue from foundations within the cosmos to that the world itself has a basis, as it is too gigantic a jump. The thought of a primary mover or a cause that is uncaused would be objected because it would suggest having to step on the outer surface the cosmos to view it, which is impracticable. The creation of the cosmos can be faced up by arguing that what reason could there be for the globes’ subsistence goes back to perpetuity. People as human beings do not have adequate comprehension of the globe being created, to bring to a close that it cannot go back to perpetuity (Melchert 136). Furthermore, since people do not have the capacity to experience God subsequently, he does not manifestly continue living. In addition,

Ryanair marketing strategies Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Ryanair marketing strategies - Essay Example According to the research findings Ryanair began its operations in 1985 with a single 15-seater plane, primarily a conventional airline from Dublin and Waterford in the Ireland Republic to London. During the initial years of operations, the airline faced significant financial challenges, which led to losses in the company. After an analysis of its marketing strategies, the company decided to re-launch in 1990/1991 as a â€Å"no frills†, low cost air carrier, replicating the business model of American Southwest Airline. Since then, price has been the integral marketing strategy of the company, promoting and maintaining its growth in the European low-cost airline industry. These changes were the ideas of Michael O’Leary, initially the financial controller of the company. O’Leary, now the chief executive officer at the company, persuaded Tony Ryan (owner) to redress financial issues affecting the company at the time. He developed a marketing strategy based on Americ an Southwest Airlines, introducing the concept of low-cost, â€Å"no frills† in the airline. These changes stemmed the losses of the company, as well as turning the venture into a huge success. According to statistics, the company posted a profit after tax of 303million dollars in 2006, a 13% increase from that recorded in 2005. Currently, the airline operates in more than 146 routes to 84 different destinations in 16 countries, carrying more than 15 million passengers annually. Further, the airline plans to become the largest airliner in Europe in a few years. By any standards, one can consider the company as successful, primarily based on its growth in the market as well as its profitability. 2. Mission and Strategy The objective of Ryanair is to be the largest and leading low-cost airline in Europe through continuous expansions and improvements in its low-cost services. The primary objective that are in place to achieve this include, low-cost fare, industry-leading custome r service, strong commitment to quality and safety maintenance, flight services on short-haul routes, leveraging the internet, and low operating costs that address personnel productivity, aircraft and equipment, airport access fees and customer service costs. The principal policy of Ryanair is to offer the lowest flight fares available from any carrier (Gugenheimer, 2006:67). For instance, the company often matches the prices of a competitor if they lower their prices. Consequently, one may consider this anomaly given that the company has a strong commitment to provide quality customer service, but these two strategic elements are complementary insofar as the company is concerned. Ryanair strategically uses small regional airports for its flight operations, keeping the operations costs low as well as providing a less congested traffic alternative for its customers travelling, thus less delays. Additionally, the frequent, short-haul flights do not require provision of complex service s such as food and drinks, as they are rather short compared

The Short Story Of Mother To Son English Literature Essay

The Short Story Of Mother To Son English Literature Essay There are so many great stories, short plays and poems to critique within this text book. The poem I chose to critique was Mother to Son by Langston Hughes. He was born James Langston Hughes on February 1st 1902, in Joplin Missouri. James was a member of an abolitionist family. Hughes attended central high school in Cleveland Ohio, but he started writing poetry when he was just in the eighth grade. During this time, he was even selected as class poet by his fellow classmates. Langstons father did not think that his son could make a living on writing poems alone, so he enrolled him in an engineering program at Columbia University. Soon after, Langston withdrew from the program in order to pursue his writing career. Shortly after, Langston published his first poem which was his most famous, The Negro Speaks of Rivers. Langstons work got so much recognition it appeared in the NAACP and other publications. He was a prolific writer and throughout his life, he wrote sixteen books of poems, two novels, three collections of short stories, four volumes of editorial and documentary fiction and the list goes on. With all these prior knowledge of Hughes, I was able to understand his writing style a bit more clearly and grasp his theme within the poem. The theme for Hughes poem is, Even though life has been hard for the mother and she could not see what was ahead, she still encourages her son to continue on in life because she made it through. I love the way that Langston, so clearly depicted this theme within the poem and while you read it you can get a clear sense of exactly what is going on and you may even seem as if it were your mother speaking to you. The poem is self narrated and one can feel the love and emotion from the character. It has a strong meaning behind it because the mom cares for her child and wants him to continue on in life and to never give up. In life, mothers always wish the best for their children and never want them to fall by the way side or be led astray. Every mother wants for the child to be successful in everything that they do. It makes a mom heart broken or feels as if they failed, when their child fails. A critic by the name of R. Baxter Miller says In this poem the woman also represents the continuation of the race. Having given life to the next generation, the mother represents a figure of female strength, affirmation and generational continuity. Another critic by the name of James Baldwin says, Hughes is at his best in lyrics like Mother to Son. The poems lyrics elements include a first person speaker, an expression of intense personal emotion and a belief in spiritual transcendence of time and early circumstance. Both critics are correct and within the poem you can see exactly what they are referring to. The tone of the poem is full of love but also has intense warning. The mother wants the best for her son and Hughes clearly depicts that within his poem. The poem starts off by the mother informing the son that life for her has been hard. She states Well son, Ill tell you; Life for me aint been no crystal stair. Its had its tacks in it and splinters and boards torn upà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦ (Meyer 1168) The mother, just like every mom who has had a hard time in life, tells her child what she has gone through; her trials and tribulations. She goes on to describe her life by saying the boards were torn up there was no carpet in places, which symbolizes her emptiness, how tough it was and chaotic. Think of a house if you were looking to buy one and you came across a house with the boards up in the air, mold on the walls, roof is leaking, insects infested the place and there was no carpet where carpet should be. Chances are you would turn your head the other way and look for something better, for you would know this is not the way a house should be. You could never make your family stay in this house for you know that they deserve better. Just li ke the mom she talks about the hard parts of her life, but she is trying to do better even in spite of whatever it is that she is going through. She goes on to say that shes been climbing and reaching landings to make it. Meaning shes been going ahead trying to do better and make something out of her situation and she is not giving up. Sometimes in life we have to realize that our situation is not the worst thing on earth. Even if we were going through the loss of a job, the death of a child, the loss of the house, being homeless, starvation or battling a deadly disease. We should realize that we can make it through in spite of. The mom warns her son to stay focused and persevere. She states, dont you turn back. Dont you set down on the steps because you find its kinder hard. (Meyer 1168) You can hear in her tone that she does not want him to ever give up or turn back while hes experiencing his tough times. Every mom encourages their child to go through whatever the situation may be and to never look back and say we cant do it. Sometimes as a child, we may think the problem is just too big for us to deal with or that we cant get through it. Sometimes we get weak and weary when our situation looks like there is no light at the end of the tunnel. Even though it looks as if we cant go on, we have to remember the warnings that our mothers have said to us. We have to remember when they tell us to be better than them in everything that we do. Mothers try hard to get as far as they can in life, educationally and physically. Every mom tells their child to go higher and do more. So if your mom got a bachelors degree and made only 30,000 a year, she would want you to get a masters or a PH. D and make 60,000 a year. We have to remember when our mothers tell us to be better than they were. An example would be if your mom use to mistreat you as a child excessively beat you or put you down every time you needed her, she would want for you to treat your children with love and compassion. Your mother would also want you to be there for your child and uplift them in times of need. Anything that your mom did that you did not agree with, you should do better when you have your children. After all the warnings and encouragement, the mother ends of the poem by saying Ise still climbin, and life for me ain;t been no crystal stair.(Meyer 1168) A critic by the name of Alishia talks on her belief of what the crystal stair symbolizes. She states, I believe the crystal stair reference means that crystal is transparent, you can see the other side clearly through crystal. If her life was no crystal stair, she didnt know what the outcome was going to be, she just knew that she had to keep moving and keep working f or the best life she could make for herself. I agree with Alishia because if something is crystal you can see right through it and since the mom says life hasnt been a crystal stair she cant see through her life or see what is to come. When you cant see whats ahead of you, it makes it hard to plan out what you will do and prepare yourself accordingly. If life was a crystal stair for the mom, then should would be better prepared for everything and have time to plan out a solution to all her problems but life is never like that we never know whats to come. All we know is that when it does come our way we must not fall back, or get scared and give up. We must keep on going and persevere to the end so we can feel good that we accomplished something and made it out on top. Not only will we get personal satisfaction, but our mothers will be satisfied. This is what the main theme is for the poem Mother to son. Its all about us making it until the end and never giving up because we cant see whats ahead. The poem was very meaningful and motivational and Hughes did a wonderful job displaying this within his poem. This poem encourages and uplifts the reader to keep on moving forward in life and this is a life lesson that we all should take heed to. Work Cited Page Meyer, Michael. Mother to Son. Eighth. Burger King Case Study Essay

Burger King or McDonalds? In the United States, these two companies equally compete for consumers. Americans usually favor one company over the other or just choose to eat at whichever is more convenient to them. For the American people, Burger King is as common of a household name as McDonalds. However, in Japan, the Burger King brand is one that is not very well known. Burger King has been trying to tap into the Japanese market for some time now. McDonalds, KFC, and Pizza Hut are the leading fast food market chains as of today, but Burger King is trying to make it into this region of the world. With U.S. markets saturated, and the mad cow disease scare slowing sales of Burger King in Europe, it is so important for Burger King to saturate another market, Japan. Much research has been done to think of new and effective ways to penetrate the Japanese market through marketing. Our group of researchers have put together an in depth report on the issues within the marketing of Burger Kin g in Japan. They have discovered the main cause for this need in marketing and what needs to be done to solve Burger King’s marketing issues. Situation Analysis There are many differences between eastern and western culture regarding the restaurant industry. In Western Culture space is more easily attainable. It is easier for new companies to enter the market in the restaurant industry because it is more accepting of diversity. Food trends in this culture differ dramatically from eastern culture. In the western culture, significance of food is not greatly valued and is offered in access creating more waste. The western culture is vast and heterogeneous. Many cultures are accepted creating a vast variety of fusion food sold here in the west culture. In restaurants a bigger variety of different food can be found on the menu. In the Eastern culture, food defines the culture. Each country has it’s own unique and cultural dishes that signifies the past. The middle easts favorite top meat ingredient is lamb and it is substituted for beef. Also most of the Middle East is Islamic so that means that many of the of their dietary rules are obser ved because of religious factors. In Asia, food and culture is divided into three main regions: southwest (India), southeast (Vietnam) and northeast (Japan). India uses more vegetarian ingredients such as beans, rice, and spices. Vietnam focuses on stir-frying, steaming, or  boiling when preparing their food. In Japan, many use the spices they used for their for religious ceremonies. Also in Japan, space is very limited due to overpopulation of people. The Japanese market is maxed out making it very challenging for new companies such as restaurants to enter the restaurant industry. To the Japanese consumer, the significance of food is valued and they feel it is important to not waste it. The norm of their culture is to conserve and not let anything go to waste. Food is offered in small portions for this particular reason. Japan has a very homogeneous culture. They are set in the ways that they do things and don’t deviate from their way of life. In Japan’s restaurant industry, it is more common to see rice and vegetables on the menu. In the case study one of the reasons why Burger King is unsuccessful in Japan is because they are trying to push western culture in an eastern market. Burger King doesn’t understand that they have to tailor their menu to meet the needs of the eastern pallet. They are not offering the foods that appeal to the people of Japan. There are number of other reasons why BK has not become successful in Japan: Weak advertising. Upon researching commercials for Burger King in Japan, it is apparent that their advertising doesn’t appeal to their consumer market. Forcing higher prices than their competitor (McDonalds). McDonalds has been established for more than 25 years and is the most popular hamburger restaurant. Most consumers are price conscious There is no market place for them because they haven’t completely established their brand. BK in Japan does not look like they have established any goals as to how they want to present their brand No differentiation among competitors They haven’t fully achieved brand recognition They’re trying to be an upscale restaurant which doesn’t fit the market. Targeted market is too narrow only catering to a younger crowd They need to reach out to the older population.  The cost of having flame broil grills is not cost effective.  BK is hiding the most unique characteristics because it’s too expensive to build it in front of the restaurant. The budget promotion costs are being  overlooked while opening too many stores. BK is just wants to try to take over the competitor market when in reality they are failing. Problem Definition The problem with Japan is brand image. Burger King wants to expand without building a brand that the Japanese consumers are willing to spend extra money for a burger. Analysis of Alternatives Focus on â€Å"freshness† Burger King has stated that its main focus is producing traditional burgers. Instead of the typical two pickles and some ketchup, focus on the nutritional value such as fresh lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and pickles. Fix branding image Differentiate themselves as a more upscale restaurant A example, better training of the staff and cleaner facilities. This may avoid burger wars. Appeal to younger generation Studies have shown that the younger generation is willing to spend more money on nice things. Burger King should try to target this market by becoming an upscale burger restaurant. Also, anime commercials may attract a younger crowd. Place flame broiled grills in front of store. With the gas restrictions are becoming more lenient, having customers visibly see how burgers are made will attract more customers and provide free advertisement just by word of mouth. Attract customers by smell. Venting the exhaust from the grill will release the smell of burgers cooking into the public. This could reach the customers 5 sense of smell, touch, see, taste, and hear. All of this elements could attract more customers to a delicious flame broiled Whopper. Continue integrating Burger King into existing stores Building â€Å"stand-alone† restaurants is expensive. By adding small restaurants into high traffic areas (train/gas stations) it will be a great selling location because of the high volume of customers stopping and waiting. Also, land is so scarce in Japan, partnering will help minimize costs and provides  a definite location for the restaurant. Adding Japanese influence into store. May become more relatable to the culture so customers will be dining in a comfortable environment. Sponsor shows Sponsor physical challenge show comparable to MXC (Most Extreme Elimination). Making the obstacle courses resemble Burger King. Example: have some customers jump on Whoppers or placing the Burger King Emblem to help positively advertise working out with burgers. Themes in restaurant The rock and roll theme is creative but the drawbacks are that they’ll only be known as the rock and roll themed restaurant. A Burger King could be known as a themed restaurant by having different themes in each restaurant. One themed restaurant can have revolving carts where the consumers can sit down and just pick their order off a conveyor belt right by their table. Recommendation Top Recommendation Ranking 1. Fixing brand image 2. Promote freshness of ingredients 3. Adding flame broil grills in front of restaurants 4. Integrate Burger King into existing stores such as gas station or train station 5. Focus on Millennial demographic 6. Promote Japanese culture in restaurants 7. Spend more on promotional advertising 8. Attract customers by smell 9. Sponsor Shows 10. Theme in different restaurants SWOT Analysis During the research it can be said that Burger King in Japan is trying their best to become a real competitor in the fast food industry. I believe that Burger King has the ability to succeed if only better decisions are made. It is evident that many BK restaurants are being developed in a rapid amount of  time. A Japanese proverb â€Å"wishing to eat the fugu, but wishing to live too† states that â€Å"Fugu is a delicious fish which has a poison in it which leads to death if eaten, so in order to eat it has to be prepared by a skillful cook who knows how to properly get rid of the poison. This proverb illustrates situation when there is a bit of risk in taking the action and expresses concern about the outcome†. In all seriousness, it is a risk to rapidly open BK restaurants without the concern of not reaching its potential goal of succeeding. Burger King Japan needs to sit down and focus on how they want to show the consumer what the BK industry is about. Next, corpo rate should consider thinking outside of the box and adding more cultural options instead of buns and beef. I have discovered that a black bun burger â€Å"Kuno Burger† has made it’s way to Japan. Further research on the success needs to be analyzed. Did the consumers like it? Did they know it existed? How did you advertise the sandwich? What will happen if you add rice dishes on the menu? Or fish sandwiches? Also, I believe a way to help Burger King find its target market is by asking individuals what they would like to see, taste, hear, smell, and touch. Maybe have more events and a taste testing between two competing burger restaurants. One target market can be tourists visiting Japan. Some tourists are thrilled to see that their comfort zone is all of a sudden changed because of cultural influences. McDonalds has successfully changed its menu to fit more of the consumer needs which has proved to be the top restaurant to beat. Burger King needs to be more aware of their tactics and build a better team to figure out how to attend to all customers from all around the world (whether the want something familiar or something new). In conclusion, Burger King has to reconsider its standpoint in Japan. It has proved to establish itself successfully in other countries. In the maxed out market economy of Japan, Burger King can has potential to grow. Corporate needs to band together to better figure out the brand image before expanding itself too thin.

Benefits of Swimming

Swimming Rejuvenating, the body mind and spirit†¦. Fitness development The fitness development of swimming can be classified into1 group and 2 sub-sections: Performing swimming regularly can help one in building cardio which is important for both weight loss and good cardiovascular health. When the workout is increased gradually by swimming strokes in the water, the heart rate and muscle activity is improved. This increases blood flow to your muscles, which results in more nutrients being delivered to them. It decreases risks of cardiovascular diseases like high blood pressure ands prevents obesity when calories are being burnt during your workout sessions. Always remember to warm up before a proper swimming workout session. After a workout session you can do a few basic laps to cool down and help your muscles recover and relax your body after a workout session. When you are doing high-volume workouts, with a good amount of breathing, this is an aerobic swimming workout. Anaerobic swimming workouts have to do with sprinting. However, simply sprinting, even if it is on a pace clock, does not make the workout anaerobic. By extending the rest period, and demanding the maximal speed of the athlete during springs, is an anaerobic swimming workout. By just performing simple water exercises known as water Aerobics, one can get a great workout session. Your aerobic endurance is your ability to exercise your whole body for a long period of time, at a moderate intensity like swimming. When you are first starting to train and you are not very active start off slowly. To increase your aerobic level you need to overload your body. It is a low impact workout session and so any injuries to your joints and muscles are prevented. Equipment needed? When in competition – Swimsuit: Usually very tight and sometimes longer down the legs and arms. This provides the least amount of drag so you take off is al lot faster. Goggles: Protect your eyes and see everything more clearly avoid any damage to the eyes and contract water-borne infections. Cap: Cuts out drag that hair has (weight wise). Swimming block: The raised platform from which a swimmer starts their race. It has a non-slip surface. Ear plugs: are made of rubber, they protect ears from water and noise and easy to install and remove Stopwatch: is used to keep count of time for laps racing ect. Towel: absorbent cloth used to dry the body. Racing Lane: These lines are made of polypropylene rope and pliable plastic floats, these separate the pool and are used for swimmers to have individual lanes. When in training – Fins: Work your legs and add propulsion to your swimming with fins. Long fins are great for beginners = develop ankle flexibility. Short fins are great = speed to your swimming. Kickboard. To work your legs exclusively, it allows your upper body to float while you kick with your legs. Paddles: Increase pull against the water. Where can I swim? The ideal location in which to perform water aerobics is in an indoor swimming pool where the water temperature is controlled. Health clubs offer swimming facilities along with the regular gym membership, they provide a race – style pool with classes and programs were you would be watched over by a professional trainer so that you can obtain maximum results during practice/training and maintain no injury /health risks these however are the latest trends to do in group training. Outside ponds, pools or lakes can be used, but an indoor pool is preferred. Benefits of swimming Physical Benefits: It reduces blood pressure, and risk of having a stroke. It reduces your resting heart rate and increases your cardiac input. It makes your heart pump blood effectively and efficiently therefore your heart muscle strength increases Swimming as an exercise requires all the movement muscles to co-ordinate at the same time. Water creates more resistance. As a result of this you develop stronger muscles, maintain muscular balance and ehabilitates you muscles. Good stretching habits, can greatly improve flexibility. The smoothness of the movements helps lengthen and stretch muscles giving the appearance of being more toned, and having a healthy physique. Swimming is a very low impact exercise taking away any excess pressure on the bones, joints and muscles. It is one of the safest and cushioned forms of physical exercise. It improves the ability to control and maintain health y weight During 30 minutes of swimming it is possible to burn 260 calories. Low water temperatures also stimulate blood circulation, builds up endurance and metabolism Social Benefits: Whether at the beach or a pool the best form of recreation is swimming; it is a lot of fun and can be great way to socialize, friendships are made and you meet/interact with people from all different walks of life. You can join a water aerobics class or a master’s swim practice and socialize while you workout because it’s a safe work out program. Spiritual/Emotional benefits: Helps develop a positive attitude but mainly swimming forces you to regulate your breathing and allows more oxygen to flow into muscles. It also helps in massaging your muscles and relieves stress and tension. Being surrounded by the warm water facilitates a calming and meditative feeling. Contributes to a feeling of well-being as well as renewing energy and teaching patience. For a first time swimmer it removes the fear of water, preferably swimming should be introduced at an early age. Environmental responsibilities you should consider Chlorine in swimming pools- The chemicals found in chlorinated water are effective in purifying your pool but are discovered to have negative effects on the environment. Chlorine dissolves when mixed with water. It can also escape from water and enter air under certain conditions. Once in air or in water, chlorine reacts with other chemicals. It combines with inorganic material in water to form chloride salts, and with organic material in water to form chlorinated organic chemicals. Chlorine causes environmental harm at low levels. Plants and animals are not likely to store chlorine. However, laboratory studies show that exposure to chlorine in air can affect the immune system, the blood, the heart and the respiratory system of animals. Therefore Chlorine is especially harmful to organisms living in water and in oil. Chlorine affects towards humans – It is also known that pure chlorine is very toxic, even small amounts can be deadly to your health. When small amounts of chlorine are breathed in during short time periods, it can affect the reputational system. Effects vary from coughing and chest pains, skin and eyes. Alternatives include -Bromine has less of an odor therefore it can b e used as a sanitiser for an indoor pools. Salt is another alternative. Basically you need a unit called a Salt Cell, which passes an electric current through the water and converts salt into chlorine. Cancer risk among people drinking chlorinated water is 93% higher than among those whose water does not contain chlorine. † *Don't eat too much and then swim, allow at least an hour after a meal before swimming. Don't swim after taking alcohol or on an empty stomach. Make sure your pool is clean; dirty pools can give you an earache or perhaps even an upset stomach. Over chlorinated pools will be more subtle and are more dangerous. Always shower before and after swimming you never know what you might bring into the water, in terms of bacteria. When inside- Don't swim below diving boards, someone may land on your head always check areas where the depth of the pool changes suddenly. Don't use a mask or fins in the pool rather save them for the beach. Don't run near the edge of the pool, you may slip and hurt someone or yourself. Always check the temperature of the pools before diving in- make sure you do not dive in a shallow area. Always make sure you were your swimming caps, earplug and goggles, this prevents infection in the eyes, ears and chlorine damages your hair. Make sure you do not overly exercise (when you are tired stop and rest) and make sure you are in good shape to swim. When outside or at the beach -Choose a safe area many beaches have safe swimming areas clearly marked with buoy lines and with life guards on duty Beware of waves they can flip you over and possibly injure you. Headlands and rocky areas can quickly be surrounded by tides and at some beaches the water depth can increase suddenly – so go with caution to avoid this. Avoid strong currents; they can drag you away from shore or onto rocks. Protect against heat stroke and dehydration in hot summer weather. Aim or purpose of swimming Swimming is not only fun but is one of the best ways to stay fit and healthy. By swimming regularly you will be leading a healthy lifestyle. It is an excellent form of exercise where all the muscles of the body are used when one swims. It is a sport that will bring kids fitness and enjoyment for life. It enhances children and adults natural flexibility by exercising all of their major joints. Since swimming requires constant supply of oxygen to the muscles, it is considered as an aerobic exercise, and it is believed that this helps to reduce stress so that you can just tune out and relax. Swimming caters for all skill levels. You can perform many different exercises when in the water. It also helps develop coordination because it requires combinations of complex movements of all parts of the body, enhancing muscle function, grace, and mobility. Not only does it feel great it is also effective in weight loss. As swimming is an easy and ———————– Safety when swimming simple exercise one feels refreshed. As you enjoy working out in the water your mind is at peace and away from all the worries.

Fuel Cells Flywhheels and Hybrids essays

Fuel Cells Flywhheels and Hybrids essays There are three types of experimental vehicle (EVs) propulsion technologies on the currently being tested. Batteries are currently the most popular power source for modern EVs but they are by no means the only available technology. A number of alternatives are under development and they, too, are well positioned to rival batteries as an effective EV Some of the most recent and exciting news in electric-vehicle development has centered around a new power source, called the fuel cell. Â  The fuel cell utilizes a special membrane to generate electricity through the controlled reaction between hydrogen and oxygen atoms. Â  Unlike batteries, which store electricity rather than generate it, fuel cells actually produce electricity through a controlled chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen. Inside a fuel cell, the two elements are fed to opposite sides of a porous membrane. As hydrogen atoms pass through the pores, they are stripped of their electrons. This results in a negative charge on the membranes hydrogen side and a positive charge on the oxygen side. Stacking fuel cells in series produces enough power to operate a vehicle. Unfortunately, there is a downside to this innovative system-hydrogen is extremely volatile. It is also difficult to store and unavailable at local filling stations. Chrysler Corporation is currently working on a fuel cell that eliminates some of these obstacles, notably storage and inconvenience. Their efforts may make fuel cells a viable option in One of Chryslers plans is to use small amounts of gasoline in fuel cells. Doing so would eliminate the dangerous proposition of storing hydrogen onboard an EV before converting it to electricity. A series of reaction chambers in the system would convert the gasoline to hydrogen as needed, and carbon monoxide-produced as a ...

Scientific revolution and the influence of Bacons doctrines Essay

Scientific revolution and the influence of Bacons doctrines - Essay Example Scientific revolution and the influence of Bacon’s doctrines The called enlightenment of the west zone had followed his thoughts via a institutional developments. These developments contributed towards the increase of knowledge and its its scope of accessibility to those people who could make good use of it.industrial revolution could not have developed into sustainable economic growth without this enlightenment. Many historians and philosophers saw this as a transformation or change in world view. According to the historian Herbert Butterfield: â€Å"Since that revolution overturned the authority in science not only of the middle ages but of the ancient world — since it ended not only in the eclipse of scholastic philosophy but in the destruction of Aristotelian physics — it outshines everything since the rise of Christianity and reduces the Renaissance and Reformation to the rank of mere episodes, mere internal displacements within the system of medieval Christendom.... looms so large as the real origin both of the modern world and of the modern mentality that our customary periodization of European history has become an anachronism and an encumbrance† (Butterfield, viii). The new ideas encompassed the idea of looking at matter to be composed of atoms and a complex chemical composition replaced the former Aristotlean view that it as made of the five elements and hence was continuous. Aristotle’s concept of motion (brought about by a cause and would last as long as the cause is there) was also changed (the new concept says that motion was continuous without any need of further cause).

Analyse geopolitical risk of refugees fleeing from Libya to Europe Essay - 1

Analyse geopolitical risk of refugees fleeing from Libya to Europe - Essay Example Instead, now the greatest threat to Europe’s geopolitical stability is external. Europe has been final destination of majority of immigrants from Africa, Middle East, and Asia. However, after the eruption of democratic revolution, ‘Arab Spring’, in 2011 in Tunisia, which swiftly spread to Syria, Egypt, and Libya, the enormous number of refugees and asylum seekers from these countries and other parts of Africa have been risking own lives in overcrowded, decaying boats to enter Europe. According to the reports of Frontex, the European Union’s border control agency, over millions of migrants from Northern Africa, especially from Libya, have attempted to enter Europe via Mediterranean Sea route in the last 2 years. Libya, which is currently suffering from the clashes between two rival governments and their militia, possesses a serious threat to stability and peace in Europe as major terrorists organizations are regularly threatening to infiltrate Europe with a great number of terrorists through massive migrant flow from Libya to Europe’s s outhern coast. Furthermore, the economic burden and the ineffectiveness of EU to tackle the issue of Libyan refuges is intensifying political and social unrest in affecting states, like Italy, Malta, and France. The present paper highlights the growing issue of North African refugees in Europe, which is significantly affecting the geopolitical stability and peace in the region. The root causes of rapidly increasing number of African refugees fleeing to Europe lies in the 2011 Arab spring and ineffective policies of the EU towards it. In 2011, widespread demonstrations against housing shortages and political corruption in Libya quickly turned into violent clashes between government forces and anti-government rebels. In April 2011, when the Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi was about to succeed in crushing growing opposition of rebels, the US and major European

Organic chemistry Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Organic chemistry - Essay Example A careful look at the peaks results displayed by the NMR of the substance is also required. A singlet peak at a chemical shift value of 11.1ppm confirms the presence of the COOH group. Peak at 2.4ppm is due to the presence of the group R-C=O attached to CH. Applying the n+1 rule we know that the methylene or the CH2 group will be able to interact with the three hydrogen of the methyl or the CH3 group, hence (3+1)=4 peaks or a quadruplet is obtained. Similarly the three hydrogen atoms of methyl are ale to interact with the 2 hydrogen of methylene, hence (2+1) =3 or a triplet peak is displayed. The ratio obtained is determined by the relative heights of the respective peaks. Peak at 3330 per cm at the infra red spectrum is due to the high absorption range of the O-H group in the compound, whereas peaks centered at 2900 per cm is due to the presence of C-H bonds in the compound. M-1 peak of 60 is the RMM of the compound (12*3) + (1*8) + 16= 60 atomic mass unit, peak at 31 confirms the presence of CH2OH: 12+2+16+1=31, C2H3 gives peak at 27: (12*2) + (1*3), C3H7O :( 12*3) + (1*7) + 16=59. 3.6ppm value at the NMR suggests the presence of R-OH functional group. The single hydrogen is able to interact with the neighboring hydrogen of the CH2 group hence a triplet is obtained. A singlet peak at a chemical shift of 2.2ppm shows the presence of the R-C-O fragment. 6 peaks at 1.6ppm are obtained due to the presence of R3CH where single hydrogen is able to interact with 5 neighboring hydrogen giving 6 peaks. Triplet of 0.9ppm is present due to R-CH3 as three hydrogen interact with the neighboring 2 of the CH2 giving a triplet peak (2+1). The ratio of 2:1:2:3 provides us the different environments of the protons. Percentages of carbon, hydrogen and an unknown element are 45.9%, 8.9% and 45.2% respectively. Dividing them by their respective relative molecular masses 45.9/12, 8.9/1 and 45.2/35.5, it is found out that the other element is chlorine as the percentage

Romeo and Juliet vs Macbeth Essay Example for Free

Romeo and Juliet vs Macbeth Essay In the first scene of Romeo and Juliet is set out in town, whereas Baz lurhman’s interpretation of Romeo and Juliet it is set out in a petrol station which is also a public place but the main reason this is used as the opening scene is to show that it’s modernised version. In Macbeth the first scene is set out on heath, however in palanski’s 1960 film version is set out on a beach. In both Romeo and Juliet there is violence but of different types. In Romeo and Juliet the violence is a feud between two families, it is gang related violence whereas in Macbeth two countries are at war, it has control and order unlike Romeo and Juliet. In both plays the main characters are not seen in scene 1 of the plays however are mentioned and we gain knowledge of the characters through the voice of others. In Romeo and Juliet, Romeo is fist mentioned by his mother, Lady Montague when she says â€Å"O where is Romeo? Saw you him today? † also when lady Montague asks Benvolio where Romeo was he replied that he was up an hour before dawn, walking west of the city and trying to calm his troubled mind, when he saw Romeo in a grove of sycamore. Benvolio walked towards his friend, but Romeo spotted him and went further into the woods, out of sight. This shows that he is trying to isolate himself away from everyone. Benvolio knew how Romeo felt so wanted to leave him alone, however lord Montague doesnt agree that Romeo should be left alone. He tells Benvolio that Romeo is often out in the sycamore grove: Many a morning hath he there been seen, with tears augmenting the fresh morning dew, adding to clouds more clouds with his deep sighs†. Not only does Romeo wander about, weeping and sighing, he also locks himself in his room and makes it dark. In Macbeth, Macbeth is first mentioned by the witches, which is not a good sign because in Shakespeare’s day if you are connected to witches in any way its bad. In scene 2, the captain describes Macbeth as â€Å"brave† and that his sword is â€Å"smoked† with blood. This suggests that Macbeth is a violent and cruel killer. In both plays we can identify that conflict are very close to both Romeo and Macbeth although Macbeth has a greater involvement in it because Romeo isn’t interested in his family feud. As his father is worriedly talking about him, Romeo appears. Benvolio asks Romeos parents to step aside so that he can find out whats wrong with Romeo. Benvolio promises that if he doesnt discover what Romeos problem is, it wont be for lack of trying, he says, Ill know his grievance, or be much denied . Benvolio is now seeking out Romeo to find out what’s wrong with him . Though he hasnt been saying anything to his parents, Romeo is open with his friend. Benvolio asks questions to Romeo to help the audience find out what’s wrong with him, and Romeo tells him that he is Out of her favour, where I am in love Then follows a long discussion of love, during which we find that Romeo is in love. The fact that Romeo confides with Benvolio shows their true relationship . For a moment, it appears that Romeo is tired of talking about love. He asks Benvolio where they are going to have lunch, and then says, O me! What fray was here? But neither food nor fighting can really turn Romeos thoughts away from love. Rather than let Benvolio say anything about the brawl, Romeo says, Yet tell me not, for I have heard it all. Heres much to do with hate, but more with love . In saying, I have heard it all, Romeo does not mean that he has heard all about the fight that just took place. He means that he has heard all about fighting in general. And he doesnt care. Romeos language to benvolio shows his state of mind, he using oxymorons, â€Å"feather of lead, bright smoke, cold fire, sick health† this suggests that he has a troubled mind, he is confused and he has a lack of direction doesn’t know what to do this is where benvolio helps him.

fight club :: essays research papers

I think that everyone, to some sense, is uncomfortable or insecure in surroundings they are unfamiliar with. For me it is hard to be confident in surroundings I am not used to. Having confidence in myself is a huge part of life. Insecure feelings in a foreign place are a very lonely part of life, learning how to overcome these feelings is always beneficial.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Last August I chose to try out for a hockey team in Port Alberny, British Columbia. The challenge I faced before I stepped on the ice was to rise above the nerves I had developed during my long car and ferry ride. The ten hours I spent in the car was horrible. I had all that time to think how the camp could turn out, which made me nervous. There were all the questions in my head. How would I match up against my competition? What if I played badly? What would the coaches think of me? And would I get cut or make the team? My whole hockey career I always worked hard to be the best that I could be. Making this team meant I would have a shot at achieving a college scholarship. Upon my arrival to the rink I had to do a physical fitness test with the other guys in the camp. As soon as I joined the group of guys, I immediately felt distanced from all of them, since I was a day late to the camp and from the U.S. It was like I was walking around with Bobs bitch tits on my chest from the book Fight Club. Bob was a body builder taking hormones which caused him to grow breasts. He was used to having a fit body. So going from a muscular guy to having â€Å"bitch tits† is a huge change in his appearance. This would be hard for any man to accept. I imagine he must have felt as I did, like the spotlight was on him. I am not the kind of person who wants to be the center of attention. The coaches made us take a timed two kilometer run, which was tiring for just about everyone. After the run, we had a little rest, my legs felt like they were going to fall off; they were so stiff from the ten hour car ride and then running two km.

Laser Gingivectomy And Gingivoplasty Health And Social Care Essay

It is rather common to observe chronic inflammatory Gingival giantisms during and/or station orthodontic intervention. Sometimes the giantisms may even potentially complicate and/or interrupt orthodontic intervention. With the debut of soft tissue optical masers these jobs can now be addressed more easy. Amongst many LASERS now available in Dentistry DIODE LASERS seem to be most ideal for orthodontic soft tissue applications. As newer interventions herald into minimally invasive techniques, DIODE LASERS are going more promising both in patient satisfaction and dentist satisfaction. Keywords: Gingival giantism, LASERS, DIODE, Compliance.IntroductionIt is rather common to observe chronic inflammatory Gingival giantisms during and/or station orthodontic intervention. Sometimes the giantisms may even potentially complicate and/or interrupt orthodontic intervention. In malice of frequent patient instruction and motive of the patient sing unwritten hygiene, it ‘s rather common to see patients developing gingival over growings because of hapless conformity and complicated orthodontic contraption designs. Conventionally surgical gingival giantisms are treated by Gingivoplasty or Gingivectomy utilizing Surgical knifes & A ; Blades. After development of soft tissue LASERS ( Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation ) patients conventional techniques are replaced by LASER Gingivoplasty & A ; Gingivectomy. The possible advantages of LASERS include: Minimized intra operative hemorrhage, Less runing clip, Faster mending, Less postoperative hurting and puf finess, Good patient credence and easiness for orthodontist to restart back to intervention fast1-4. This article presents instance studies of successfully treated gingival giantisms with Diode LASERS. Degree of gingival giantisms can be scored as5 Grade 0: No marks of gingival giantism. Grade 1: Giantism confined to Interdental papilla. Grade 2: Giantism involves papilla and fringy gingival. Grade 3: Giantism covers three quarters or more of the Crown.Case 1A 19 twelvemonth old female patient was referred from Department of Orthodontics to Department of Periodontology after her orthodontic intervention for rectification of Gingival symmetricalness. Clinical scrutiny revealed Grade II Gingival Overgrowths in relation to Maxillary & A ; Mandibular front tooths. Patient besides has important physiological melanin pigmentation of affiliated Gingiva, Marginal Gingiva and Inderdental papilla ( Figure:1 ) . After appropriate patient instruction she was enrolled for Phase I periodontal therapy. After four hebdomads of callback there were no important alterations in the Gingival symmetricalness. Then patient was treated with Diode LASERS and Gingivoplasty and melanin depigmentation of Maxillary anterior Gingiva was performed. Post operatively patient was rather satisfied with both gingival symmetricalness and gingival coloring material ( Figure:2 ) .Case 2A 16 twelvemonth old Fem ale was referred from Orthodontics section to Department of Periodontology during her active intervention stage for appraisal of Gingival status. Clinical scrutiny revealed generalised gingival expansions along with generalised hemorrhage on examining. Orthodontist was advised to take the arch wires and molar sets. After patient was explained about her gingival status and the intervention, she was enrolled for Phase I therapy. After for hebdomads the Phase I therapy consequences were evaluated and farther determination was made to rectify the residuary Grade II gingival giantisms by Diode LASERS ( Figure: 3 ) . After Diode LASER Gingivoplasty gingival architecture was reverted to normal ( Figure: 4 ) . Orthodontic therapy was resumed after 2 hebdomads of equal healing.Case 3A 18 twelvemonth old female patient was referred to Periodontology section amid her Orthodontic intervention. Intra unwritten scrutiny revealed Grade II type Gingival Overgrowth in relation to Maxillary front too ths and 2nd bicuspids. Orthodontist was advised to take off the arch wire and patient was enrolled for Phase I periodontal therapy. After rating of stage I consequences the determination was made to rectify gingival giantisms by Diode LASERS. Gingival giantism rectification and melanin depigmentation of maxillary anterior gingival was done using Diode LASERS. Orthodontic therapy was resumed after 2 hebdomads of equal healing.DiscussionImproper unwritten hygiene leads to plaque accretions and subsequent periodontal jobs and caries6. With fixed orthodontic contraptions and patients ‘ improper unwritten hygiene patterns can compromise the orthodontic intervention outcomes7. In longterm orthodontias interventions merely a 50 % conformity rate has been noted8. Factors which can act upon conformity include: patient features, intervention continuance and complexness, Dentist and patient relationship and educational and behavioural intercessions used9-13. Orthodontists are often challenged by soft tissue jobs associated with intervention. Most frequent challenges include gingival giantisms and gingival dissymmetry that can turn even good treated instance into 1 that falls short aesthetically. Conventional surgical gingivolplasties and gingivectomies have built-in patient related jobs like: Surgical injury, station operatve hurting and puffiness, hapless patient credence etc. With the debut of soft tissue optical masers these jobs can now be addressed more easy. Amongst many LASERS now available in Dentistry DIODE LASERS seem to be most ideal for orthodontic soft tissue applications14 ( Table: 1 ) . DIODE LASERS are most ideal because of built-in advantages like16: Sole intent is soft tissue remotion No hazard of harm to next tooth Structure Excellent haemostasis Dry-field operation Light contact of the fiber tip with tissue Proprioceptive feedback Portability Incorporation of DIODE LASERS in orthodontists ‘ office besides helps to undertake with other soft tissue jobs like17-20: Aesthetic gingival recontouring, Soft tissue Crown prolongation, Exposure of soft-tissue impacted dentitions Removal of inflamed and hypertrophic tissue and Frenectomies Tissue remotion at the site for miniscrewDecisionWith the coming of low strength Soft tissue specific LASERS like DIODE, managing the soft tissue related ailments has become more ease and honoring. As newer interventions herald into minimally invasive techniques, DIODE LASERS are going more promising both in patient satisfaction and dentist satisfaction.

Spite Analytical Summarry

Taylor Wiemken Instructor Spaulding English 110. 02 January 17, 2010 Emotional Logic The family in the essay â€Å"Spite,† by Anne Trumbore, fights through the adversity of having a mother with multiple sclerosis. As the reader starts to delve into the meanings behind the words, it shows there is more of a mental quarrel going on between the family members. â€Å"Spite† expresses the battle between the logical and emotional aspects of the human that begin to coincide with each other as conflicts and complex situations arise. The repetition of logical ideas and conversations throughout â€Å"Spite† shows the importance Anne Trumbore places on having a logical perspective during adverse situations. Anne says, â€Å"The facts are indisputable. †(1). The word â€Å"facts† and â€Å"Three ribs, weakened by twelve years of steroids, snapped on impact. †(1) emphasizes the exact recounting of the moment her mom fell in the shower. It helps represent t hat even in a dire situation, Anne places the logic of the negativity she receives from her mother over the emotional response of rescuing her from the scalding water. She recounts how her mother would call her a fat ass.Instead of an emotional response of displeasure such as crying, she takes time to analyze her body characteristics and concludes that her ass is fat compared to the rest of her body. Anne sees that the facts simply state that helping her would be counterproductive to exceeding the expectations of the class by solving the equation. The constant changing between the equation and her mother screaming brings up the question of whether logic is stronger than the emotional appeal to help. The satisfaction of solving the equation involves a greater sense of accomplishment than helping her naked, screaming mother out of the shower.Contemplating Anne’s actions shows how the mind can categorize an emotional situation into a logical equation of finding the greatest bene fit. The logic placed throughout the essay, â€Å"Spite†, infers that Anne’s emphasis on facts, as developed throughout her childhood, is important to her understanding of real life situations. The use of emotional feelings and actions between the mother and daughter in â€Å"Spite† constructs the difference between their conflicting reactions. The instant reaction of screaming by the mother as she fell in the scalding water is what most people under duress would do.The expected response of Anne would be to help her mother in need, but her unordinary perception of not caring and brushing off the instance seems to paint her as a cold, selfish person. The shaving of Anne’s head also evokes emotions of Anne being so inadequate that her mother doesn’t seem to care about her appearance. Her mother’s emotional response of â€Å"She’s not a boy. It’s a pixie cut. †(3) seems to contradict her action of shaving Anne’s head . Anne’s mother’s words are defending her daughter’s female identity but her actions of shaving Anne’s head are considered masculine.Anne develops the story for the reader by explaining situations that would seem unordinary and then recounting past events that have changed her emotional capacity to not feel sorry for her mother. The essay, â€Å"Spite†, develops the mother’s emotions of fighting multiple sclerosis with the logical ideas of Anne’s decision-making during difficult circumstances. The use of Anne’s mother’s emotional responses with the logical decisions Anne contemplates in her head, helps the reader see the inner battle between the two, and how they relate to Anne’s decision-making as the essay progresses.

Criticism of Mel Gibsons Hamlet, How well did he maintain the character Essay Example

Criticism of Mel Gibsons Hamlet, How well did he maintain the character Essay Example Criticism of Mel Gibsons Hamlet, How well did he maintain the character Paper Criticism of Mel Gibsons Hamlet, How well did he maintain the character Paper Essay Topic: Hamlet The aspects of Hamlets character that Mel Gibson played up, in the movie production in which Gibson was acting in, were the characteristics of Hamlets strong affections for his mother, Gertrude, along with his subsequent hatred and deep resentment of his step-father, Claudius. Also, his fear and subservient reverence for the ghost of his late father, his scholarly, perceptive, sometimes introspective mind, and his charisma, to the extent of the Castle Ellsinore, for the peoples love for him is mentioned in a few instances, but there is not much advancement on this apparent love, or what Hamlet himself did to be awarded it, save a few laughs at jokes he makes. Gibson plays the Hamlet afflicted with the oedipal complex quite blatantly. This passionate affection is displayed in many of the scenes between Hamlet and his mother, as they are very physical with each other, more so than in a normal mother-and-son relationship, with a lot of touching faces with their hands, and full-lip kissing. In the pictures scene (III. 4) Hamlet becomes very indecently physical with his mother, almost as if he is raping her. I personally felt that the oedipal aspect had been taken a bit too far at that point, but those actions did serve to illustrate that Hamlet may indeed have been confused in the context of sexuality, or it may have helped to emphasize the fact that Hamlet is indeed mad, if you chose to take that stance towards his character. This oedipal aspect of Hamlets character was probably derived from the text, by Gibson, the many references to Claudius and Gertrude in bed and the many sexual allusions he makes when he thinks or talks about them. Why, she would hang on him as if increase of appetite had grown on what it fed on. O, most wicked speed, to post with such dexterity to incestuous sheets! At the same time that Hamlet is talking about his mother, he makes many hateful references to Claudius, and this aspect was much emphasized by Gibson throughout the movie, but a memorable moment was directly after the players had enacted the scene where the player king was killed in exactly the same way as Claudius had done to old Hamlet, and Claudius becomes frantic and starts calling for lights. We see Hamlet running and jumping about, singing ecstatically and almost reveling in the fact that his uncle had given himself away by his actions. In other scenes, especially in ones where Hamlet is talking face to face with Claudius, he doesnt make any effort to conceal his feelings about his uncle, as he is either sarcastic or seething through his teeth. I thought that these methods of expressing his anger, and also the outburst of happiness and delight in his uncles suffering were appropriate, as sarcasm would serve to emphasize not only his hatred, but also his wit and cunning with words. Excellent, ifaith; of the chameleons dish. I eat the air, promise-crammed. You cannot feed capons so. In the act three, scene four, I felt that Hamlets outburst of happiness was appropriate, because his hatred for the uncle that had murdered his father had been so great that he became absolutely ecstatic when his uncle became subjected to torment of guilt, and this action was a kind of revenge. Hamlets monologue scenes are well done in the movie. The setting of an actual castle gives the audience a more realistic and cold, hard setting, and helps to emphasize the mood of his speeches. For example, in the To be or not to be monologue, a suicidal and deathly mood or air was emphasized by Hamlet staring into the eye sockets of a skull, surrounded by more skulls and more symbols of death such as tombs and even the cold, dark, stone walls. Hamlets speech at the end of act three, scene three is also greatly emphasized by the dark and gloomy night, with the castle towering in the background. These scenes could, of course, be done just as well on stage, but the authentic setting of a real castle adds an extra layer of realism and atmosphere to Mel Gibsons carrying of the monologue that would be hard to replicate on a stage.

The eNotes Blog Choose Your Own AdventureHamlet!

Choose Your Own AdventureHamlet! If you are at all a fan of comics, or have a child who is, you have likely heard of Ryan North, writer of the hilarious comic book series,  Adventure Time  ,  the wildly popular  Dinosaur Comics   and perhaps even the #1 best-selling Amazon short story anthology  Machine of Death  .   North had an idea for a new project, a take-off on the beloved childrens series  Choose Your Own Adventure,  wherein the reader can select different paths for different characters. Each path leads to a radically different ending for the character and for the story. Why not apply the same idea to the Bard?   North mused. He took his idea to Kickstarter, a crowd-sourcing site which funds creative projects. North made his goal of raising $20,000 in three and a half hours, made six times his goal in a   week, and now the project has accrued $580,905. Heres an idea of what you can do with Norths adventurous  Hamlet (from The Guardian):   Readers will be able to opt   to Hamlet  (an emo teen in his early 30s), Ophelia (Shes got a +1 science stat, but shes also got a -1 weakness against water) or the King, Hamlets father, who (SURPRISE) dies on the first page and becomes a ghost. And then we make fun of you for dying on the first page, but you can become a ghost and must INVESTIGATE YOUR OWN MURDER that you TOTALLY SLEPT THROUGH because you got SLEEPY IN AN ORCHARD. (Shakespeare wrote this part,  said North.) So what are you waiting for?
